Weekly photo challenge: Abandoned

I’ve always correlated ‘abandonment’ with either ‘serenity’ or ‘eeriness’ when it comes to landscapes or settings. My entry (or entries, since I’m finding it difficult to pick just one photo) for this week’s photo challenge is from the ruins of Egypt. These are perhaps not scenes one would generally associate with Egypt (no mummies, no ruins and no carvings in my chosen pictures) but they are eery nonetheless.

The first is a shot from Abu Simbel. It’s so beautiful, yet more than half of the visitors head straight for the ruins instead of this magnificent view.

My second entry is of the locks during our cruise. Ours was the only boat in sight, and on hindsight, this picture kind of creeps me out.
